French Polynesia consists out of a five archipelagos groups of Atolls. In the northwest are the Society Islands, often separated in the Windward Islands and Leeward Islands. It is the most populated group with popular islands such as Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea and Bora Bora. To the south are the Austral Islands and Bass Islands, sparsely populated known for its remoteness and spelunking opportunities. The Tuamotu Archipelago is the oldest and largest chain of Tahitian islands and includes Tikehau, Rangiroa, Manihi and Fakarava but also the southern Gambier Islands such as Mangereva. In the northeast are the Marquesas Islands with Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa the best known and most visited. They were the first to be inhabited during the gerat migration and still hold many archeological highlights.

Tahiti, with capital Papeete, is the only island with real evening entertainment but most tourists choose to stay on neighboring islands which are better known for honeymoon locations. Moorea is touristic offering Cook Bay and Opunohu Bay, two spectacular bays with green steep mountains on both sides. Huahine consists out of Huahine Nui and Huahine-Iti (Big and Little Huahine) connected with each other by a short waterway. Raiatea, with Uturoa and the Marae Taputapuatea, is considered the most religious island in French Polynesia. Its twin brother Tahaa is more remote and offers excellent scuba diving. Bora Bora is known throughout the world, often described as one of the prettiest islands in the Pacific. It is also one of the most touristic with all sorts of accommodation types, restaurants and even some nightlife. Rangiroa with famous Blue Lagoon, situated in the Tuamotu group, is known for its exhilarating dives in the Avatoru Pass and Tiputa Pass, where you will literally be surrounded with hundreds of sharks. There are many other atolls that are opening up for tourism and where dive sites are being explored every day. Officially French speaking, all people in the tourist industry know how to speak English, and arranging trips or booking tours shouldn't be difficult at all.

French Polynesia is an idyllic paradise mainly consisting out of atolls and islets which are beautifully surrounded with palm trees and white to pink sandy beaches. Green valleys and towering peaks create a tropical dream destination also perfect for hiking, snorkeling, sailing and deep sea fishing. Don't forget to visit one of its black pearl farms of fish farms. Its clear warm and azul colored waters are abundant with fish, even more so because of the many passes and channels that separates the many islands' inner lagoons with the outer ocean. These passes offer some of the best drift dives in the world, often together with tens of species of sharks and manta rays. There are whale sharks and many large pelagic that likes to feed on these nutrient rich waters, creating an adventure underwater. Its bright sand provides for astonishing pictures with plenty of colorful coral reef fish.
