Bora Bora (other names are Vavau or Pora Pora) is one of the most popular islands in French Polynesia. It is located in the northern Leeward Islands group and not far from Tahiti. It is a well established touristic island with restaurants and bungalows in all types and price classes. Its inner lagoon is said to be the most beautiful in the world, encircled with palm trees and pristine white beaches. Its capital Vaitape is a great place to stroll around and shop for local handicrafts and pearls.

Other natural highlights include a hike to the volcanic top of 727 meter high Mount Otemanu or its slightly smaller brother Mount Pahia. You can explore its fantastic in flowers covered valleys by horse, motorbike or bicycle. Water activities are popular with sunset sailing cruises, canoeing, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving the most popular. You can book 4x4 safaris, a submarine excursion or visit the islet Motu Tapu. Visit one of the famous white beaches such as Matira Beach or enjoy the beauty of Pofai Bay. Historians can take a look at several World War II relics or at archaeologically ancient Marae temples which are the last remains of the Polynesian religion. A must see is the Marae Marotetini situated west of Farepiti wharf.

Scuba divers are treated here since Bora Bora is one of the few places in the world where you can spot mantas all year long. Schooling Scalloped Hammerhead sharks can be found at the seaward channel dives, as can eagle rays and plenty of huge pelagic. Barracudas, jacks, trevallies and coral reef fish are common as well. The idealistic landscapes and pretty underwater world make Bora Bora one of the most romantic islands in the world.
