At the ocean side of Manihi, a breathtaking wall or Drop-off falls from 3m (10ft.) to 1500m (5000ft.) deep. It is abundantly rich with Napoleon wrasse, giant jack-fish, impressive schools of snappers and barracudas, ocean fish such as tuna or Bonita. Once a year during the month of July, thousands of marbled grouper unite for the mating season; one of the most spectacular underwater events in Polynesia. Another dive site called the Crossing crosses the channel from south to north ending up at the drop-off.
